How does Duluth compare to like-sized districts for investment in facilities?
Duluth’s investments in our school facilities had been very low compared to the majority of other school districts our size. The yellow bar on this chart show that Duluth used to invest approximately 1/3 as much as other school districts of the same size. Now that implementation of the Facilities Plan is under way, Duluth’s investments in school facilities (green bar on chart) are still below the state average (red line) yet provide valuable returns for taxpayers.
Comparisons are adjusted for net tax capacity to make it a fair comparison—we know some of these districts have higher property values than ours.
