Why is property acquisition part of the Facilities Plan?

As is true in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Duluth schools sit on properties that are smaller than would be required if new schools were being built in a developing city. The School District discussed this with the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) prior to the approval of the Facilities Plan. Based on MDE recommendations, the School District is working to increase site sizes at Denfeld, Congdon Park, Ordean, Laura MacArthur, Grant, and Piedmont. Thus far, eminent domain has not been required to purchase any new land.
