What kind of economic impact will the Facility Plan have?
The Long Range Facilities Plan will have a significant economic impact for Duluth. In 2009, the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce commissioned a study with the Bureau of Economic Research (BBER) at the UMD Labovitz School of Business and Economics. The study examined the employment and real estate opportunities created by the implementation of the Long Range Facilities Plan.
Among the key findings of the study:
- More than 1,600 jobs will be created in Duluth.
- For every dollar spent on the LRFP, another 61 cents in economic impact is realized, for a total impact of $442 million directly into Duluth’s local economy.
- Construction spending is helping to offset the recession in Duluth.
