What is the Red Plan Plus?

On January 12, community members presented to the school board another alternative to the Long Range Facilities Plan, called the Red Plan Plus. The Red Plan Plus proposes to turn Denfeld, Ordean and Central into seventh – 12th grade schools, while shifting sixth-graders to the district’s elementary schools. Proponents of the Red Plan Plus believe the alternative plan will save construction and operating costs.

Unfortunately, while certain elements of the Red Plan Plus will eliminate expenses, the plan will actually increase total construction costs by $36 million and add $410,000 to annual operating costs. In addition, the Red Plan Plus will compromise some of the most valuable education benefits provided by the Long Range Facilities Plan.
